Motorhome hunting

Jenny Jones is searching for the perfect motor caravan
I took advantage of the gap between Christmas and the New Year to go back through my brochures from the NEC. Im still on the island bed trail.
All the beds seem to be roughly the same size with just enough room to walk round the ends of them, but as for the rest of the layouts the choice is varied. Showers on the right of the bed, showers on the left, basins and cupboards.
The Pilote was almost perfect but had a wobbly plastic loo door that had to be left open to get round the bed! Adria had a great layout with extra wash basin, whilst the Esterel had well designed seating. The Chausson had a transverse bed one could walk around - an innovative design that I wish Id paid more attention to and Auto Trail had a useable bed with solid wood quality. But, on balance, the Rapido 7090 came out favourite in addressing our needs. It has an L- shaped kitchen, spare seat on right as one entered (over which Michael could put up more hooks for bag and coats) and a full- length fly screen door as well as a useable bed. And it solved this years hobby horse - when I enter a motor home, having come in from the rain, where do I hang my coat without affecting all those smart interiors? An anorak question maybe, but I have noticed that it does, on occasion, rain in England!

A very interesting article, bed space and access being something my wife and I also look for when buying a new or used motorhome. The trouble is that now we are fast approaching our later years we are now most concerned about fuel economy. Dealers seem to be most dis-interested in this topic saying that there are too many variables to consider. Why cannot the approach to providing fuel figures for a car not be applied. An estate car is still a load carrier and yet figures for these can be provided. Please more on this subject in the future.
