Owls flock to Skelwith site

Animal lovers should hot-foot it to the Lake District come spring as 2008 will be the year of the owl, according to the folk at Skelwith Caravan Park in Ambleside

Due to this year's wet summer mice have been using the absence of owls to breed at a rapid rate without their young becoming breakfast for the birds.
But according to site owner Henry Wild, next year Skelwith's large population of Tawny owls and occasional Barn owls will be making the most of the plentiful supply of food.

Henry said, 'We will be starting a special owl-watch programme through next spring and we are confident that there will be a sharp rise in the number of breeding pairs.
