Calor, the UKs leading LPG supplier has urged motorhomers to carry out carbon monoxide checks on their appliances, after leaving them unused over the winter.
Around 20 people in the UK are killed each year by carbon monoxide poisoning according to Health and Safety Executive figures. Gas appliances including heaters, stoves, fires, cookers and barbecues are all potential sources of a carbon monoxide leak.
Jayne Price, Marketing executive at Calor says : It is vital to check that your motorhome has adequate ventilation and chimneys or flues havent become blocked over the winter months. It is not unusual to find birds or mice nesting in such areas, so check for any uninvited visitors because they can cause obstructions, resulting in inadequate ventilation which in turn leads up to a build up of CO(carbon monoxide) in the living space.
Symptoms of CO poisoning are similar to those of the flu.
Warning signs of a leak include yellow and brown staining around appliances.
