Ireland's first Aires de Services opens in Limerick

The first Irish Aires de Services is now open at Askeaton, Co Limerick.

Ireland has opened its first Aire de Services in Askeaton, Limerick. Askeaton has spaces for about 10 motorhomes and is well signposted from all directions into the town. On the N69 coast road from Limerick to Kerry, it's approached by a lovely drive along the estuary of the river Shannon.

Askeaton Aire was opened after lobbying by the Munster Motorhome Club and in particular chairperson, Mrs Maud Naylor. Officially opened by the Kevin Sheehan, Chairman of Limerick County Council, Motor Caravan magazine hopes more towns across Ireland and indeed the UK will follow suit.

The Munster Motorhome Club is based in the Munster region of Ireland taking in the beautiful counties of Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Waterford and Tipperary. The Club holds get-togethers every two weeks from April to September and if you're staying at Askeaton Aire you're more than welcome to get involved and join in the fun.

Aires are popular across France and provide motor carvanners with a safe place to stay overnight and rest before continuing on your journey.

Why has it been called the same name as used in france? I would have thought the Irish would have had their own name, ( Motorhome Stopover ) comes to mind. The french want to call it what they will, why do we and everybody else have to follow suit.
