Pony trekking at Blair Castle Caravan Park

Pony trekking at Blair Castle Caravan Park on the Atholl Estates

See some of Scotland's most breathtaking scenery on horse back

The Blair Castle Trekking Centre enables visitors to see some of the best views of Atholl Estates.

These new extreme rides involve horse riding off the beaten track and hill walking over steep terrain to reach the remotest parts of the Estate. Never before will you have experienced such breathtaking views of glens, distant mountain ranges and the patchwork of different landscapes.

The Centre is also launching a new ‘Ladies Night’ which take place every Tuesday evening in May and June from 6.30 – 8.30pm. Ladies can enjoy an early evening ride around the castle grounds, the perfect way to relax and make the most of the long summer evenings.

The centre is also offering a special package for the over 50s to encourage riders back into the saddle.

Take a ‘Heather, Hills and Hamish’ guided tour through the stunning hills and heather moors of Atholl. Following old drover tracks, perhaps catching a glimpse of roe deer, grouse and red squirrels as buzzards fly overhead. The ride will be guided by Hamish, an estate ghillie, who will be able to answer questions on stalking and heather management.

Alternatively take a photographic or picnic ride where the ponies will carry panniers with your equipment and food.

The Blair Castle Trekking Centre is set in the grounds of the Castle itself, adjacent to the Deer Park, and offers treks and hacks to suit all abilities. The Centre has been running since the 1950s, when the 10th Duke of Atholl decided to find summer employment for the ponies used to carry stags and grouse off the hill during the sporting season.

The Centre is approved by the Trekking and Riding Society of Scotland (TRSS), and all the staff are qualified, friendly and familiar with Atholl Estates. Blair Castle Trekking Centre now accredited by British Horse Society (BHS) and Trekking & Riding Society Scotland.

Blair Castle International Horse Trials take place at Atholl Estates from the 21 to the 24 August 2008. An international event which attracts visitors from all over the world, Blair Castle International Horse Trials is fast becoming a well know international calendar event.
