Interior features of the Autocruise Startrail

Interior features

Lounging 8/10

The inward-facing settees at the front will comfortably accommodate four people and you can rotate and recline the cab seats then sit back and relax. There's a pair of halogen spot lamps so that you can read. Cleverly, the television is mounted near the rear of the van and can be swivelled so that you can either see it from the lounge or the bed.

Kitchen 9/10

In the centre of the van, opposite the entrance door, the kitchen is one of the Startrail's best features. There's a large Thetford fridge and separate freezer plus a full cooker with an oven, grill and a hob that has three gas burners and one electric plate. It also boasts a stainless-steel sink with built-in draining board, both of which can be covered by their glass lid. But the star feature is the slide-out cupboard, which rotates out to increase the work surface and storage in the kitchen.

Storage 9/10

This is an area in which the Startrail excels. There are a couple of exterior-access lockers, including the large one under the rear bed - useful for storing camping chairs. Inside, there are plenty of roof lockers, especially in the rear bedroom area. The most useful storage space is the massive locker which takes up the whole of the front overcab area. This is big enough to hold all your bedding and much more besides.

Night time 7/10

While most Startrails will probably be used by a couple wanting the luxury of that permanent rear bed, there's also the option to have guests or children staying with you thanks to the front seating, which converts into a large double bed. The front settees have slatted extensions, which pull out easily when it comes to making up the front double bed. And the resultant mattress, made out of the seat cushions, isn't too bad.

Dining 8/10
Four could dine here quite happily, and it is possible to seat six if the swivelled cab seats are called into action. However, it will be a bit of a stretch for anyone sitting on the cab seats to reach their plate on the table. There's a large Heki rooflight in the lounge area, which makes it nice and bright during the day. This also provides great ventilation if one of the side windows is also left open.

Washroom 9/10

At the rear of the compartment there's a swivelling Thetford cassette toilet, with a large wall locker above for your toiletries. In the middle a shower cubicle can be formed by pulling-out a pair of bi-fold plastic screens. One set shields the toilet at the rear from water splashing and the other shields the washbasin at the front.

Overall marks 84/100
