It's an issue that's been driving our readers 'potty' and now a poll by breakdown service GEM Motoring Assist has revealed the extent of the UK's pothole problem.
According to GEM's survey, half of all drivers have had an accident or a near miss while swerving to avoid a pothole, yet almost 70% have never reported a pothole to local authorities.
GEM chief executive David Williams said: 'Potholes affect every single road user. Often motorists will not see one until it's too late.'
Mr Williams urged local councils to take 'swift action' against the problem, but also advised motorists to 'play their part' by reporting potholes when they encounter them.
What's your view on this issue? Do you think local councils are doing enough to tackle the pothole problem? Write into us and let us know:
