Chatsworth Park
Derbyshire (5 miles)
MEDIUM difficulty
Start and finish Chatsworth Park Caravan Club Site
Via Chatsworth House, along the River Derwent, through Calton Lees and Calton House, north to Edensor and back through Chatsworth Park to the site
Essential equipment Ordnance Survey Explorer OL24 Map - White Peak Area
The wow factor There's just one centrepiece in this walk, and that's Chatsworth House. We first walk past it along the River Derwent before heading uphill for stunning views from above
Best time of year to go This walk could be muddy as you head uphill, making it better suited to spring and autumn expeditions, although with good boots and a walking pole, this is another all-year trail
Catch your breath here:
Chatsworth House: Less of a stopping point, more a fabulous day out. Being privately owned, you will have to pay an entry fee, regardless of whatever membership cards you carry
Calton House: You'll get wonderful country views across the estate, on top of the hill - the perfect place to enjoy a picnic
Edensor: I fell in love with this little village on the edge of the estate, particularly the atmospheric St Peter's Church
At the end of the day Chatsworth Park Caravan Club Site, Baslow, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1PN. 01246 582226 caravanclub.co.uk
Why stay here? You don't have to move your vehicle to enjoy full access to Chatsworth - the site backs onto the estate itself.
