Normandy Itinerary

Saturday 16 May pm

Meet up at The Camping and Caravanning Club's Canterbury site. Overnight in Canterbury on a service pitch.

Sunday 17 May am

Catch morning ferry from Dover to Calais. Cruise down French motorways from Calais to Pont l'Evêque in Normandy. Allowing for a comfortable driving speed, without any stops, this 190-mile journey will take approximately three and a half hours. Travelling through coastal Picardy and then on into Normandy, you'll get a good view of the Côte Opale and will also enjoy crossing the Pont de Normandie, a fabulous bridge that crosses the Seine between Le Havre and Honfleur.

Sunday pm

Arrive at Castel Camping le Brèvedent, Blangy-le-Château near Pont l'Evêque. This four-star site in the grounds of a small Norman château will be your base for the next four nights. You will be welcomed by Raphael Gurrey who is the third generation of the Gurrey family to welcome visitors to their site. Enjoy a welcome meal in evening in the site restaurant.

Monday 18 May am

Coach excursion through the Pays d'Auge, the picturesque area around the site, dotted with apple orchards and old timbered and thatched cottages along the Route du Cidre. Visit the pretty yachting resort of Honfleur with a picturesque old port, markets and art galleries. Return to le Brèvedent via a Calvados distillery and learn about and sample Normandy's superb apple brandy. No lunch included - a suitable stop will be made for people to take lunch.

Tuesday 19 May

Enjoy a guided ramble through the lanes of the countryside that surrounds le Brèvedent, led by the site owner. For those feeling energetic in their leisure time you might like to know that the site offers specially negotiated rates at three golf courses, all within 25km of the camp site.

Wednesday 20 May

Depart on a full day coach excursion to Paris, accompanied by a guide from the camp site. The journey to Paris takes approximately two and a half hours. Once there you will take in many of the city's highlights, the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Mars, Invalides, Pont Alexandre III bridge, Petit Palais, Champs Elysées, Place de la Concorde, Madeleine, Boulevard des Capucines, Opéra, Boulevard Rochechouard, Sacré Coeur, Arc de Triomphe and Place de l'Etoile. No lunch is included, a stop is made on the Champs de Mars to buy lunch.

Thursday 21 May

Leave le Brèvedent and drive to Castel Camping Château de Martragny, six miles outside the cathedral city of Bayeux. The journey is approximately 50 miles. Château de Martragny is run by the de Chassey family and enjoys a splendid setting in the grounds of the château and is extremely well-located for visiting the D-Day landing beaches, Caen and of course, Bayeux.

Evening

Meal in camp site restaurant comprising of a salad starter, the main course of the day (beef Bourguignon or another typical French dish) and sweet of the day. Drinks
not included.

Friday 22 May

Full day coach excursions to some of the best known D-Day sites, visit Arromanches, its Mulberry artificial harbours and 360 Museum where you will experience footage from the D-Day landings in a 360º environment, the D-Day landing beaches Juno, Gold and Sword, Pegasus Bridge, Colleville sur Mer and the Pointe du Hoc. A fascinating day out that will take you back into recent history. For those who already have an interest in World War II this will prove to be a day to remember, and those who didn't think they were interested will soon find themselves amazed. Lunch not included but time will be made available in Arromanches for a lunch stop.

Saturday 23 May

A day at leisure to explore Bayeux on Market day, visit the cathedral, Bayeux tapestry or the World War II museum. The shops and restaurants in Bayeux are good and after your week in Normandy you may be tempted to browse in the windows of the numerous estate agents. There is a car park open to motorhomes right next to the Bayeux tapestry museum in town.

Evening
