Motor Caravan invites you on a spectacular 16-day tour through Northern France in 2010. The tour will take in Paris, Picardy and Champagne. Trip highlights include a visit to the Palace of Versailles and winetasting in Champagne. Our tours give you the freedom to explore on your own or in a group. If you're confident enough travelling through France independently, we'll meet you at the campsite. If you prefer the camaraderie of a convoy then we'll travel down the French autoroute together. Return ferry crossing for motorhome (up to 8m length) and passengers on SeaFrance Dover-Calais crossings (departing Dover 06.01-14.00, departing Calais 14.01-06.00). Crossings on other routes, other dates and with other operators, and on bank holidays and peak holiday weekends may incur a supplement. You must travel with the same operator in each direction.

Price does not include travel insurance, motorway tolls (expected to cost approximately ¤55 if departing and returning to Calais using the fastest route), meals other than those stated or personal expenditure. A £75 deposit per booking plus insurance premiums if taking Carefree insurance will secure your place. The tour is arranged by Carefree (ABTA No. V3987), and you must be a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club to book. Membership is £36 a year. ITINERARY

Tue 25 May
Meet up at Camping and  Caravanning Club Site, Canterbury. Overnight in Canterbury on a service pitch.
Wed 26 May

Catch a morning ferry to Calais. Drive the 55 miles to your campsite, close to the Baie de Somme, for a four-night stay. Welcome dinner in the campsite restaurant.
Thu 27 May

Drive to Le Crotoy (10 miles). Day ticket for the historic steam railway that runs round the bay from Le Crotoy to St. Valery. Spend time at the fishing harbour and old town of St. Valery. Boat trips to see the seals and other wildlife are possible, or visit the interesting Museum Picarvie. Lunch (not included) can be taken in one of the restaurants in St. Valery or Le Crotoy.
Early evening: Travel to the Parc du Marquenterre, just a few miles from the campsite, in the heart of the Baie de Somme Nature Reserve, for an evening meal made with local produce in the reserve restaurant. By special arrangement, you can stay overnight in your unit on the reserve with tour guides, without facilities, to enjoy the reserve at dawn, or return to the campsite.
Fri 28 May

Rise early for a guided walk in the reserve as day dawns. Breakfast in the reserve restaurant is included. Possibility (payable and subject to availability), of a one-hour trip with a local guide in a horse-drawn calèche onto the surface of the bay. Rest of the day at leisure. You are free to remain in the reserve, return to the campsite or perhaps visit the aquatic centre or golf courses at nearby Belle Dune. You could also visit La Maison de Baie de la Somme et de l'Oiseau at Lancheres where you can see displays of birds.
Sat 29 May

Coach excursion to La Coupole near St. Omer for 
a guided visit in English of this extraordinary site, constructed under the Nazis by slave labour, and intended for the mass launching of V2 rockets during the Second World War. Lunch (not included) can be taken at La Coupole. Visit to the chocolaterie of M. Derick at Beussent, with English teach-in and tasting, followed by a visit to the gardens of the Abbey of Valloire.  
Sun 30 May

Drive the 115 miles to our next campsite near Chantilly, on the north side of Paris for a two-night stay
Mon 31 May

Drive the five miles to the fairytale Château of Chantilly. You will be issued with tickets giving admission to the gardens, the princely apartments inside the château and to the fabulous equestrian display in the great stable block in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided in one of the château restaurants.
Tue 1 June

Drive to our third campsite on the outskirts of Paris for a five-night stay.
Wed 2 June and Thu 3 June

For two days you will be able to take the train into Paris (own cost) to explore and discover the City of Light at your leisure.
Fri 4 June

A tour of the fabulous Versailles Palace plus a walk around the grounds. The rest of the day at leisure to row on the lake and visit the Petit Trianon, personal palace of Marie Antoinette, with its nearby private theatre and rustic farm.
Sat 5 June

Day at leisure. Relax at camp or in the local area, or take a further trip into Paris. There is always more to see in this beautiful city. Don't delay your return, as tonight we have a special dinner with live music in one of the few remaining guinguettes - traditional riverside restaurants that date back to the 1900s.
Sun 6 June

Drive the 160 miles to our final campsite in the Marne Valley in the Champagne-Ardennes region for a three-night stay. Here you will relax amid the quiet of the countryside. Stroll by the campsite's lake, or take a swim in the indoor pool, before taking part in a cheese and wine tasting organised by the site's proprietors.
Mon 7 June

Coach trip to a Champagne vineyard where an English-speaking guide will initiate you in the mysteries of Champagne production before an obligatory tasting of the famous sparkling wine.
Tue 8 June

The last day in France is one of leisure to either prepare for your homeward journey, or an opportunity to enjoy the Ardennes countryside. While the farewell dinner in the campsite restaurant as always ends the tour in fine style.
Wed 9 June

Depart tour to return home or you can continue with your stay in France.
